Recent testimony by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office confirms the plan being drafted by the majority party would worsen an already bleak budget outlook and drive the nation more deeply into debt. Nobody has a realistic, workable plan to pay for this bill. And the few plans put forward end up cutting Medicare funds for seniors or raising taxes on small business owners to over 50% of their income.
Not only can we not afford it, but forcing Americans into a government health care plan will not solve our health care challenges. It will make them worse. Under a “single-payer” system the government will create a set payment rate rather than allow competition – only perpetuating the current problems we see in our Medicare and Medicaid systems. The result of government run health care will be loss of individual choices, increasing costs, decreasing quality, and rationed care.
