House Votes to Extend Cash for Clunkers Program
Washington DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to increase funding for the “Cash for Clunkers” program after it came within hours of running out of money.  Since it began on July 1st, “Cash for Clunkers” has encouraged thousands of Americans to trade in their old gas guzzlers for new fuel-efficient cars.

Oberstar Includes Minnesota Projects in Defense Spending Bill

Washington DC – A defense spending bill that passed the House of Representatives today will support U.S. troops with a pay increase.   The legislation will also ensure our troops will have the weapons, training and equipment they need to continue doing their jobs effectively.  Additionally, Congressman Jim Oberstar was able to include funding in the bill for important equipment upgrades for the Minnesota National Guard as well as financial support for two Minnesota-based research programs designed to save lives on the battlefield.

Oberstar Finds Funds for Innovative Northeast Minnesota Programs

Washington DC – Congressman Jim Oberstar has secured funding for three Northeast Minnesota programs designed to break new ground in medicine and education.  The Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill that cleared the House of Representatives today includes nearly $1 million for Lake Superior College, the College of St. Scholastica and Range Regional Health Services.

Minnesota Counties Receive Disaster Funds
Friday, July 24, 2009
Washington DC – Five counties in Northeast Minnesota will receive $1.1 million in disaster assistance to help pay for storm damage and flooding that occurred last spring.  A series of storms and floods between March 16th and May 22nd caused millions of dollars in damage.  The resulting federal disaster declaration qualified the state and local governments to apply for funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
