Most veterans, service members,
reservists and National Guard members who have served since September 11, 2001 will be eligible for financial aid under a new GI bill that took effect on August 1, according to Congresswoman Kaptur. The Post-9/11 GI Bill pays up to 100 percent of tuition and fees, plus a housing allowance and book stipend.
"This is one way that a grateful nation shows it appreciation," said Congresswoman Kaptur. "There is a direct correlation between education and income-earning ability. The new GI Bill will open the doors to higher education and better jobs."
Congresswoman Kaptur voted with an overwhelming majority in the U.S. House to extend popular "Cash for Clunkers" program by approving an additional $2 billion in funding.
The federal minimum wage has increased to $7.25 an hour for workers who are covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Congress in 2007 approved the minimum wage increase in three increments.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur joined a strong bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives in passing “pay-as-you-go” legislation to restore fiscal discipline.
