UPDATE: 68 BUSINESSES WILL OFFER 2,500 JOBS DURING TUESDAY’S JOB FAIR
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) has secured an additional 1,500 employment opportunities for his 10th Hoosier Job Fair which will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Congressman Buyer announces the participation of the United States Department of Commerce in the job fair. The Commerce Department will offer the additional jobs as assistance to the 2010 census; this brings the total number of businesses to 68 and will be offering Hoosiers 2,500 job opportunities.
BUYER PROTECTS VETERANS FROM UNFAIR PENALTIES;
Washington, D.C.—Three amendments were offered by Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) to protect veterans from being unfairly penalized—through increased taxes—for not having “acceptable” health insurance by the standards of the Democrats’ health care plan. Congressman Buyer offered these amendments Friday during the Energy and Commerce Committee’s mark-up on the Democrats’ health care plan, H.R. 3200. Two amendments were accepted by the committee and Congressman Buyer withdrew the third in agreement with Chairman Waxman that a solution would be reached.
BUYER PROPOSES WELLNESS AMENDMENT TO HEALTH CARE REFORM
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Steve Buyer, (IN-04) in his efforts to control health care costs and to promote healthy living, introduced an amendment to the Democrat’s health care plan, H.R. 3200, during the Energy and Commerce Committee’s mark-up on Friday. Congressman Buyer’s wellness amendment would protect and expand employer-provided wellness programs. The Buyer amendment, which would increase the nation’s productivity and decrease costs for both employers and employees, was not accepted by the committee.
TUESDAY’S JOB FAIR ATTRACTING BUSINESSES FROM ALL OVER;
Washington, D.C.—Tuesday, August 4, will mark Congressman Steve Buyer’s (IN-04) 10th Hoosier Job Fair. State Senator Brandt Hershman and State Representative Don Lehe will be co-hosting the event with the Congressman at the Twin Lakes High School gymnasium from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To date, 67 businesses will be participating in the 2009 Hoosier Job Fair offering 1,000 employment opportunities to Hoosiers.
