On
January 28, 2009, Congressman Barrow joined a majority in the House of
Representatives in supporting the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of 2009. The bill was signed into law by the President on February

On Wednesday, September 9, 2009, President Barack Obama addressed a joint session of Congress. Each Member of Congress is allowed one guest every time the President addresses a joint session of Congress, and Congressman Barrow was honored to welcome his state senator, Sen. Lester Jackson of Savannah.
On Thursday, August 20, Congressman Barrow greeted folks at a Job Fair he hosted at the Henry Brigham Center in south Augusta. Hundreds of folks from across the CSRA showed up for the fair, which included representatives from the Georgia Department of Labor, Georgia Power / Southern Company, Plant Vogtle, Paine College, and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, among others.
On September 5, 2009, Congressman Barrow hosted Congress on the Corner in Warrenton at the Courthouse. He also hosted Congress on the Corner in the nearby towns of Crawfordville and Gibson. Folks from across the 12th District came out, many to discuss their concerns with health care reform legislation. Unemployment has reached historic highs, and the Augusta area is getting
hit especially hard. Congressman Barrow wants to do what he can to help folks
locate work. That’s why he’s bringing together local businesses and employers
to host a job fair in Augusta
on Thursday, August 20, 2009. The
event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m., at the Henry H. Brigham Community Center, located at 2463 Golden Camp Road
in Augusta.
This event is free and open to the public.
Congressman encourages residents join neighborhood service projects
across the region to spur community improvement, renovation, and revitalization

– Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) helped paint the Union Mission’s Parent and Child Building
in Savannah
today, following President Obama’s call to national service. Earlier this
summer, the White House launched a national service initiative called "United
We Serve" to help meet growing social needs resulting from the economic
downturn. This initiative aims to both expand the impact of existing
organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage volunteers
to develop their own "do-it-yourself" projects. Congressman Barrow
will also participate in a service activity in the Augusta area.
On February 13, the House and the Senate
passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was signed into law by
President Obama on February 17th. The bill is estimated to create or save 3.5 million jobs throughout the country, including 106,000 jobs in Georgia and 7,700 jobs in the 12th District.
Congressman Barrow has put together a guidebook detailing potential funding opportunities for local
officials, community leaders, non-profit organizations, first responders,
school districts, small businesses, and individuals from the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act for 12th District.
In addition, on June 9, 2009, Congressman Barrow released a guidebook update, which shows where stimulus dollars have gone in Georgia’s 12th District so far, and lets folks know what money and programs they can still receive funding for.
